Why Is My Printer Not Printing?

Recommended for: Owners, admins, managers, and staff Time to complete: 5 to 10 minutes

If a printer stops working, check the simple causes first. Most printing problems come from power, paper, connection, or branch setup.

Quick Checks

Start here:

  • is the printer powered on?

  • is paper loaded correctly?

  • is the printer connected to the right device or network?

  • is the correct branch printer selected?

If You Use a Network Printer

Check:

  • the printer is on the same network expected by the branch setup

  • the network connection has not changed

  • the printer was added with the correct details

If You Use Bluetooth, Built-In, or USB Printing

Check:

  • the printer is paired or connected to the right EPOS device

  • the device can still see the printer

  • the cable or local connection has not been disturbed

Check the Printer Setup

Review:

  • printer type is set correctly

  • the branch is correct

  • the receipt printer was not added as another printer type by mistake

Run a Test

After each fix:

  1. send a test print

  2. confirm it prints once

  3. check the output is readable

When to Escalate

Escalate the issue if:

  • the printer has power and paper but still does not respond

  • the device can no longer detect it after reconnecting

  • the problem affects multiple devices or the whole branch
